Researched and wrote Lessons Learned: How Communities are Addressing Racial Inequities, partnered with the Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change and National League of Cities. In recent years, a body of knowledge has emerged about CCIs (comprehensive community initiatives) that use community-building strategies and principles, typically with a focus on poverty issues. Less is known about community change initiatives that focus explicitly on racial inequities using a more diverse set of strategies—identified as CCIRs. The research in this report marks the first attempt to document the growing trend of these initiatives.
Researched four communities’ work: Seattle, WA; St. Cloud, MN; Long Island, NY; and Charlotte, NC on racial equity. These sites were selected from the original study because of their use of unique and/or sophisticated strategies; their explicit focus on addressing racial inequities; their ability to show outcomes; and their collective diversity in terms of region, institutional entity, community demographics and community size. The research is documented in Community Change Processes and Progress in Addressing Racial Inequities, partnered with the Aspen Institute Roundtable on Community Change.
